Payment by Check from the IRS

You can also choose to receive your tax refund in the form of a check sent by the IRS or by your state agency. A tax refund by check may take anywhere between 10 and 30 days to reach you.

Note that you can get your refund faster through the payment by check if you pick the Fee from Refund option. With this option, you can get your refund in 8-21 days (plus 1-5 days depending on your delivery method - FEDEX or USPS).
